The ministry will cooperate if the administration is strict in the case of clashes in the university: Education Minister

Dhaka: Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury has said that if the Biswa Vidyalaya administration is proactive in taking strict measures in case of conflict or crime, the Ministry will always provide support.  

He said this while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration of the Improving Computer and Software Engineering Tertiary Education Project (ICSETEP) being implemented by the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) at UGC on Sunday (February 18).

The Education Minister said that the university administration and law enforcement forces have been instructed to take strict measures under the current law to resolve the deadlock in some higher education institutions of the country.

He said that the criminal has no political identity. Therefore, whichever party the criminal belongs to, his justice must be ensured through the proper application of the prevailing laws of the country.  

He also said that being an autonomous institution, it is not appropriate for the Ministry of Education to take direct action in the event of conflict or crime in the country’s universities. In this case, if the university administration takes initiative to take strict measures, the ministry always provides support.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Satya Prasad Majumder, Vice Chancellor of Jessore University of Science and Technology. Md. Anwar Hossain and Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Edimon Ginting delivered special guest speeches.

In the event, UGC member professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher and Professor Dr. Hasina Khan was present.
